Hello! My name is Lanny Stanly. I am a psychedelic surrealist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In 2019 I decided to start vending at local art shows in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. This would lead to a 3 year adventure of pursuing art full time. This was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Years later, at least a hundred + shows down, and 3 music festivals (Fete Du Void in Oakdale, Louisiana; Rekinection in Astral Valley Missouri; Big Dub in Artemis Pennsylvania), I was fueled with connection and ready to find my path.

In 2022, I started my academic journey towards a Master's in counseling so I can pursue psychedelic integration therapy certifications.

I am now in my junior year of schooling and am very excited for the road ahead and grateful for all the support along the way.

Another semester down 😈 67 credit hours and 3.8 GPA. Feeling really proud of myself and feeling all the hard work and long nights starting to pay off. To anyone else in an uncomfortable learning space, I encourage you to believe in yourself and i can't wait to see what's on the other side. I never thought I'd have any college hours down 🤣 and instead I'm on the way to a career that sets my soul on fire just thinking about it.... surreal. As sappy as it is, thank you to everyone: for every bit of support at shows these past few years and every kind word of encouragement. It's all added up and continues to be a fuel that keeps me grounded and motivated in a world that often feels like it's on fire. Here's to celebrating the little wins and living just for today. Man little Lanny would be speechless... slowly becoming someone that would make the little version of me proud 💙

I don't tend to be one for traditional holidays but when an excuse comes around to celebrate the love I've found i know to take it💙 I want to take an extra minute to celebrate this love and the way it has challenged me to learn how to truly live through love and hope💙 finding someone who truly looks forward to building a story with you and who is committed to growth is the most beautiful and awaking experience I've ever encountered. I'm so grateful to have someone that allows me to navigate the feelings of undeservingness and worthlessness at times so I can return to love and remember the courageous act it is to live through love instead of cynicism and defeat. My Jacob, thank you for being the most dependable, big hearted, kind, fun and adventurous person I know💙 every day with you is filled with laughter and love and I thank you for showing up like you do every day, for us and for the world. Please, get you a partner that you want to brag on their character everywhere you go and makes you want to battle your demons to let love prevail ⚔️🥀 because damn... it's worth the work and the wait💙

Art in the traditional physical forms has been a rare occasion lately due to work and school but here's a pic of my planner I painted for school this semester 💙 inspired by my baby tiger piece reminding me to always stay in touch with my inner wild. "When you fear the wilderness, may you remember... you are the wilderness."💙

More pictures and details coming later... but for now I'll say this is one of the most meaningful and powerful portraits I've ever had the blessing and trust to create. To be reminded of the power of unconditional love, play, and courage and how these intertwine to help us heal and live beyond pain and fear. This piece is called "Tonglen" which is a Buddhist term for cultivating compassion, or fearlessness as I like to refer to it as. May we all be reminded of the fearless soul inside, our "inner tiger" as this piece evokes💝 from my heart to yours: "Tonglen" 🕉

Wow.... Art Night @the_smiling_dog__ 10/19/24 was one to remember💙 so many special connections and conversations. Familiar faces and new souls 💙 thank you to everyone who came out to support this event, all the workers at @the_smiling_dog__ and @brieledmonds who worked around the clock to make this incredible event possible, thank you to all the artisans who came out and helped create a fun, safe, and inspiring space for everyone who attended, and as always thank you to my partner and support system🥀This show was a reminder to keep creating and connecting and sharing the journey so that others will feel inspired to as well. Thank you all for all the kind words. They are never lost on me but damn it takes time to let that level of love and support sink in if I'm being honest🫠💙 back to a social media detox because it helps me stay the most present I can be in my day to day life. (TW: Suicide attempt) This day, October 3rd, 2015, I tried to take my own life and ended up in a psychiatric care facility for a week. The picture on the left was taken the day I was released and the pic on the right was taken just the other day. // I wish I could say things got better right away but that's far from true. I'm sharing this because I am so grateful that scared little girl didn't get what she wanted. It's taken many years to say that, truthfully and gratefully. This is due to my own shame and guilt and the stigma all around us about mental health and suicide/suicidal ideation. I want to help break down these barriers about the things that make us human: the pain and suffering that makes us who we are and undeniably connects us all. // if I could say anything to anyone struggling with thoughts of suicide or suicidal ideation, is to please reach out, get some help and realize you're not alone. There are so many incredible people ready to help those willing to say "I need help". And there are more people than I ever thought who have also sat at the brink of themselves, and contemplated whether life is worth it/possible for them etc. With work and consistency, I've seen growth in myself and others in the darkest, most unlovable parts. // there are no sufficient words that could properly express how grateful I am none of my attempts were ever fully successful. And I never thought I'd say that. So to anyone in that place, it is possible to learn to appreciate your own life in the way a friend would. ... but the hardest part for me is accepting I can't do it alone. 🥀 to the humanity that connects us all, despite the sharpness of its' blade at times🛡 - Lanny 💙

I never posted much about the 2016 flood. It was the first natural disaster I've experienced: 4.5 feet of water in my childhood home and lost almost all personal belongings in the span of just a few hours of the river breaking. I am posting this because of all the horrific posts I'm seeing of the recent flooding in the Carolinas and Appalachian region. .... the most horrifying thing is seeing artist posting about not only losing art and supplies but hope. I understand this feeling: the shock, the disbelief, the horror. Also, the feeling that you can't rebuild from that level of devastation: both from physical damage and also the societal desperation that has led to robberies, assaults, etc. I don't know shit... but I do know that the accessibility of destruction is directly correlated to the accessibility of creation and rebirth. Although, nothing may seem possible right now, that's exactly the same feeling a blank canvas or an un-shaped fresh block of clay provokes: the feelings and fear of nothingness and uncertainty, yet all possibility at once... this is not "oh, this should be easy for you guys. We did it!" No. There are no words when families and children become survivors overnight. // a reminder that if our daily lives don't love and protect this earth, there will be no government to participate in, no land to care for or raise our children on. One day at a time. And when we heal ourselves, we heal the earth too💙

3 years drug and alcohol free as of 9/18/24🥀 writing this not only for the ones actively struggling, but also those on their own path to healing and those affected by addiction through their loved ones and daily lives. I debated posting about this but recovery has taught me many things, one of them being the importance of sharing the message: that it is possible to cultivate a life free of deliberate crutches and chains that stifle every bit of beauty to help numb the pain, temporarily. "We cannot choose what we numb; when we numb, we numb everything" -Brene Brown. This quote helps me a lot because it reminds me of the ultimate trade off I accepted for years. Being reminded that I also numbed my ability to be present with those I love helps me realize there is no such thing as just numbing pain; we also shut off our ability to feel the great depths of joy. Writing this because when I entered recovery, I had no expectations of anything "working". I was terrified, spiritually drained and, frankly, ready to exit this realm. And in 3 years, lots of recovery meetings, a badass sponsor, an incredible and healthy support system, therapy, psychiatry, yoga, art, etc I have been able to create a life that is worth not only protecting but living💙 and living is scary when you've been running from it for a long time... so I'm writing this for anyone else who's scared or just happy to be here. Wherever you are today, thank you for being on this epic human journey with us all. If this is what just 3 years in recovery brings me.... I can't wait to see what the future holds💙 lanny

Bittersweet goodbye to my incredible, first studio @ntheartspace 💙 I am so grateful to be expanding into a bigger space closer to my family, but I will miss the incredible atmosphere created by the collective that makes up N the Art Space. Huge shoutout to Mark Biletnikoff for his consistent and committed dedication to maintaining not only the buildings but the energy and magic inside ✨️ so many incredible moments and pieces were manifested in this space, and it allowed me to grow more than I thought possible: taking me back to my primal roots of creating for fun, for therapeutic release and reviving the wild side of creativity. And above all, learning to honor imperfection. I am forever grateful for my time in this space and highly recommend @ntheartspace to anyone seeking a studio in Baton Rouge! All types of makers/creatives welcome💙🌈 for now, I'll attempt a social media detox while setting up the new studio and continuing to learn to just be and exist 👁💙 if you're reading this, I believe in you and I'm glad you're still here.
